Echo is a small game about a room you can't see.

You get one tool: a pulse. It lights the walls, the boxes, and the way out for about a second. It also tells the thing in there exactly where you are.

Pulse and you're seen. Don't pulse and you're lost. Hug the walls and they hear you. Guess the exit and you're wrong.

A run takes a couple of minutes. Keyboard or WASD. Sound on, headphones if you have them.

Jam entry: Playtest & Feedback Exchange Jam #8. If you play it, tell me the first moment it felt unfair, not whether it is good. Sound on (headphones better) - the pulse is the whole game.

Second try without a URL, in case my longer note is stuck in moderation. The unfair moment is the first pulse: the hunter lunges at exactly your keyboard move speed, so looking is punished with no counterplay, and its creep means silence was never safety either. Good bones in the scrape-as-noise idea; I would cut the pulse's infinite range.

Played it full-window in a browser, one run, didn't reach the exit. You're right that the pulse is the whole game. First moment it felt unfair: my second pulse, not my first. First one I was just glad to see anything. Second one I already knew it heard me, and I pressed it anyway because I still couldn't tell if that glow was the exit or a wall seam. So I paid for an answer the room had already made me want. That's good-unfair. The drone rising is what made me move without deciding to. Would play again.
